Do these 4 things to make the most of your rest day

When you work out on a regular basis, it’s important to help your body and skin recover by taking a day off at least once a week. Keep scrolling to learn how to make the most of it!

If you’ve been increasing your training sessions recently and attending new workout classes to get the perfect bikini body, make sure that you’re taking at least one rest day per week. Why, you ask? Because your body and skin endure a lot during those sweat sessions, and even top athletes take time off from the gym to recharge! Below you’ll find a few tips to help your muscles relax and recover, and help your skin look more radiant.

Treat yourself to an at-home spa day

Help your skin regenerate and look and feel smoother by taking a relaxing bath, exfoliating your face and body to get rid of dead skin cells and applying a face mask. Once you get out of the water, lightly dry your skin and then massage on body lotion that contains ingredients that replenish electrolytes (which you lose during your tough workouts) and strengthen your skin like topical magnesium and sodium. Both of these can be found in Biotherm’s Skin Fitness Firming Body Emulsion!

Why is this at-home spa day so important? Regular gym-goers tend to have drier – and rougher – skin in comparison to people who don’t exercise as often. Sports physician Dr. Lebar gives us insight into why: “Skin becomes rough because of an alteration in the hydrolipidic film. Water evaporates at an abnormal rate and the skin isn’t able to stay hydrated, which causes abnormal skin peeling. […] If a person who works out on a regular basis has skin that is prone to dryness, it can get easily dehydrated during exercise.”

Get a massage

Dr. Lebar says that a 30-minute massage – especially after an intense training session or competition – is one of the best ways for your body (and skin!) to recover. However, she indicates that “it’s ideal to wait a little after exercising (one hour, or even the next day).” If your significant other is nice enough to give you a massage at home, ask him or her to use body oil for it, to nourish and hydrate your skin, like Biotherm’s Oil Therapy Huile Exilir.

Stretch away the pain

If you’re not able to get a massage on your rest day, take the time to leisurely stretch sore muscles. You can also use massage balls to relieve kinks and knots in areas that are hard to reach.

Work out your face

Just because you are taking some time off from the gym doesn’t mean you have to sign off from exercise completely. Facial exercises are great for keeping premature wrinkles away and will give you a glowing complexion! We recommend trying them out with your favorite face serum like Blue Therapy Accelerated Serum to make your skin even more radiant.

A rest day will give your muscles and skin a chance to recover and recharge so that you can look and feel your best during your intense workouts every other day of the week!
