Summer skin care: 4 tips to safeguard against dry skin
Think that dry skin is only a winter worry? Think again!
The summer months are tricky - too much heat can cause your skin to feel oily, but there can reach a point where it can start to feel dry and cracked. We just can’t win! Or so it seems…
Keep reading to find out what causes our skin to dry out, and our favorite tips and tricks to combat them.
1. Air non-conditioning
The commute is sticky and sweltering, the air is dusty and humid, and we are oh, so hot! Our only solace lies within the knowledge that we are about to walk into our ice cool building. Unfortunately, the one thing that makes summer bearable could be our main hurdle to silky, hydrated skin. Experts explain that air conditioning units remove moisture from the air, which lowers the skin’s resistance and causes surface cells to dry out (70% of these cells are made up of water, making them an easy target!).
To combat the effect of low humidity, smooth on Biotherm’s Aquasource Gel daily to deeply hydrate and plump up your skin, thanks to its 48h release formula. You’ll be able to enjoy all the cool air your heart desires.
2. Chlorine concerns
For all you sporty ladies out there, swimming is an amazing way to keep fit, but chlorine can dry your skin, stripping it of its protective layer of natural oils, allowing water out and potentially harmful substances in. This can cause dryness and irritation - not how we want to be rewarded for our hard efforts.
But don’t let this hold you back! Moisturize post-swim in order to replenish and rehydrate your skin. Skin Fitness Instant Smoothing Body Treatment gives you intense rehydration - all the while smoothing and firming rough body textures - which is exactly what your skin needs to repair and rebalance itself.
3. Too much tanning!
We live for getting some sun in the hot summer months, however sometimes you can have too much of a good thing. Overexposure to UV rays can be very damaging to your skin, causing it to look dry, and uncared for and sometimes even inducing a few premature wrinkles. Without protection, the sun could cause severe damage to your skin cells and the skin’s collagen and elastin fibres which help the skin to stay smooth, supple and youthful-looking. Lather on Biotherm’s Lait Solaire Hydratant for guaranteed protection coupled with the regenerating properties of Life Plankton to give your skin all it needs in the hot weather!
Lip tissue is particularly sensitive to UV rays, so don’t forget to give them a little bit of extra attention by applying Biotherm’s Beurre de Lèvres after sun exposure, which hydrates and repairs to keep your lips kissable all season long.
4. The number one rule...
Drumroll please… Drink water! It is incredibly important to replenish any fluids you lose in the heat to keep your mind and body feeling fresh. Experts advise that you drink between 8 and 12 glasses of water each day in the heat, but if you’re not a massive fan of H₂0, try a fruitier alternative by making a cleansing juice to keep skin hydrated from the inside out. Try blending 1 stick of celery, 2 inches of cucumber, 5 strawberries and a dash of quality coconut water for a scrumptious substitute for your skin.
Include these little pointers into your beauty regime and you’ll look and feel fresh and hydrated all summer long.
