Men: the do's and don'ts of getting rid of blackheads

While blackheads don’t cause pain like pimples, they’re still a nuisance. Follow our advice to learn how to remove them in a safe and efficient way!

Blackheads, or “open comedones,” are clogged pores that result from forgetting to use facial scrub on a regular basis, stress, and oily skin. They get their unsightly black color from sebum that’s oxidized, and they can form anywhere on the face or body. While many men (and women) have blackheads, few individuals are aware of how to get rid of them properly. Below are the top 3 “do’s and don’ts” of blackhead removal.

Don’t: Scrub your face too hard

Do: Use gentle movements and a purifying cleanser

While it can be tempting to want to “scrub your blackheads away”, unfortunately it won’t work and you’ll only end up irritating your skin. A gentle approach is what will target blackheads at their source and prevent new ones: wash your face twice a day with purifying cleanser that regulates oil production, like Biotherm’s T-Pur Anti-Oil & Shine Cleanser, and stay on top of your exfoliating game by lightly buffing away dead skin cells once a week with facial exfoliator.

Don’t: Squeeze blackheads with your fingers

Do: Use a purifying face mask

If you want to wage war on your blackheads with your fingers, use them to apply a clay face mask. If you’re pressed for time, the mask that will help you win all of your blackhead battles – in 3 minutes flat – is T-Pur Blue Face Clay. It coaxes out impurities from your pores and leaves you with purified, smooth, matte skin.

Don’t: Skip moisturizer

Do: Use mattifying gel twice a day

Even if your skin is oily, it still needs hydration. If you don’t use moisturizer, it will cause your sebum glands to produce even more oil, which can lead to even more blackheads. Use a mattifying gel that’s adapted to your skin type, like T-Pur Anti-Oil & Shine Moisturizer to keep your skin moisturized, and the oil production under control.

Follow our tips, and you’ll finally get rid of those pesky blackheads!
