Post-holiday season: 3 detox drinks for flawless skin
Recharge your vitamin and energy reserves with these delicious drinks.
While the holiday season is filled with plenty of wine and glasses of bubbly, it tends to lack in drinks that are good for you, like fresh juices and homemade smoothies. Now that the festivities are over, it’s time to make it up to your body by fueling it with plenty of vitamins and minerals. We’re not encouraging you to go on a juice cleanse (they can be boring, and quite difficult to sustain!), but you should increase the amount of detox beverages in your diet. Not only will they help you feel better, you’ll also get your gorgeous glow back! Below you’ll find a selection of three of our favorites.
For breakfast: Energizing ginger carrot orange juice
This juice is a great way to start your day, and it’s a nice change from your typical orange juice!
Ingredients you need: Oranges, carrots, ginger root, turmeric root
Skin benefits: Both ginger and turmeric are often found in detox drinks because of their anti-inflammatory benefits (goodbye pimples!). Ginger also has anti-aging benefits as it contains antioxidants called gingerol – they help fight free radicals and preserve collagen to keep your skin looking youthful. Carrots contain beta carotene, which are reputed for boosting one’s inner glow!
For lunch: Nourishing green smoothie bowl
Okay, okay, this isn’t technically a drink, but you could thin it out with more plant milk and put it into a shaker to reboot your energy on the go. However, we personally prefer to keep it in a bowl because it feels like we’re actually “eating” something.
Ingredients you need: Avocado, mixed greens, frozen mango, orange, plant-based milk, and toppings of your choice (i.e. sunflower seeds, coconut flakes, banana slices…)
Skin benefits: Avocados are a powerful radiant skin ally, as they contain both niacin and vitamin E. The niacin helps your body detox and the vitamin E keeps your skin hydrated.
For a snack: Warming ginger nectarine smoothie
Rather than reach for some candy to satisfy your sweet tooth after lunch, go for this smoothie instead. It’s more satisfying than refined sugar, and will keep you feeling fuller for longer!
Ingredients you need: Water, nectarine (frozen if out of season where you live), ginger, banana, maca powder and optional coconut nectar for added sweetness
Skin benefits: Aside from the coconut nectar, this recipe is very low in sugar, which is great for your skin (no one wants sugar face !). Maca powder is the star ingredient of this smoothie, as it balances hormones, giving you a clearer complexion.
Detox drinks are great after the holidays. However, to make your skin look even more radiant don’t forget to increase your water intake (with herbal tea, detox waters…) and a post-holiday skin routine.
