Working out can do wonders for your skin.

Your heart pounds, your breath quickens, your muscles contract. And your skin? Here’s what’s happening inside while you’re busy getting breathless…

Intense sweat-sessions = accelerated blood flow = the glow of exercise. As the body self-regulates to cool-down, the blood vessels under the skin’s surface dilate to increase blood flow– hence the red face. This extra blood flow carries extra oxygen and nutrients to your skin’s cells, according to dermatologist Ellen Marmur¹.

Work it out

All the extra blood pumping to your skin during exercise simultaneously helps eliminate waste. Sweat works out everything from yesterday’s makeup and skincare residues to free radicals that can make the complexion look dull. “You can think of it as cleansing your skin from the inside,” Marmur says.
