Lemon water isn’t just a fancy drink served in spas anymore. Lots of people are enjoying fresh squeezed lemon juice in the morning to help them wake up, during a cleanse, and to fight colds. It’s also great for your skin, especially as a way to prevent premature fine lines and wrinkles!

Lemon juice helps stimulate collagen production

Lemons contain Vitamin C, which is known to help stimulate the production of collagen. In 2007 researchers studied middle-aged women to determine how beneficial Vitamin C really is as an anti-aging remedy. They discovered that individuals who had a diet rich in Vitamin C, and low in fat, had fewer wrinkles and a better overall skin-aging appearance.

Lemon juice fights free radicals

Free radicals can be found nearly anywhere, but they’re especially present in places where pollution is high, like cities. Considering the fact that 80% signs of aging come from the way you live (which includes where you live!), it’s important to find ways to neutralize free radical damage. One of the best ways is to eat foods high in antioxidants. The Vitamin C found in lemons is a powerful antioxidant, and even helps stimulate the production of glutathione, an antioxidant that your body naturally produces.

Lemon juice detoxes your body

A healthy, radiant, and youthful complexion starts with eating clean and helping your body eliminate toxins. Lemon juice cleanses the liver, and is a natural diuretic, helping your organism flush out toxins at a fast rate so that your skin is regenerated and beautiful!

Drinking lemon water every day is wonderful for your skin. Our favorite way to enjoy it is to squeeze half of one lemon into a glass of warm water, add a tablespoon of maple syrup to make it taste sweeter, and a dash of a healing spice, like cinnamon. If you’re not a fan of lemon water, you can still incorporate the citrus fruit into your diet: put some zest in homemade vinaigrette, squeeze a lemon slice over salmon or soup, or add some lemon juice into a smoothie.
