We’re talking about coconuts, the exotic palm tree fruit that’s invading the cupboards of #fitfoodies. With over 4 million posts on Instagram coconuts have transformed into a trendy superfood. They’re full of health benefits and you can use the meat, water or milk in a variety of savory and sweet recipes.
The reason that people have grown to love coconuts so much
Coconuts’ popularity can be explained by a series of factors: they’re rich in vitamins, fiber, essential fatty acids and they’re even gluten-free! Coconut sugar is even being used in smoothies, pastries, sauces, and savory dishes, as an alternative to table sugar, due to its low glycemic index. People are falling in love with the exotic taste of coconut (it makes them feel like they’re on vacation!) and are buying coconut oil, butter, and coconut water.
The skin benefits of coconuts
So long as the coconuts (and coconut products) are organic, they provide us with tons of health and skin benefits. Coconut water, for example, is very hydrating, making it great for plumping up your skin. Coconuts are chock full of potassium, iron, magnesium, phosphorus, copper and zinc, as well as antioxidants which neutralize free radicals and prevent premature aging. They’re also known to help facilitate digestion, which enables our body to eliminate toxins, giving us a more radiant complexion.
